Specialty Equipment
BBM Railway Solutions also provides custom rail maintenance solutions for your specific application. We understand the complications that so many variations in railcar designs can present to a maintenance or production facility – and we are here to help. Our team of mechanical and electrical design engineers can develop a custom solution to your specific project requirements. Some examples of our previous experience include portable jacks, lifting and rotating systems, static and dynamic dummy trucks/bogies, fixed and portable sanding systems, wheel pullers, bearing presses, resilient wheel saws, spring testing and compression systems, ultrasonic testing equipment and much more!
Lifting & Rotating Systems
The BBM lifting & rotating system allows a truck assembly to be lifted, turned on its central axis from 0-360 degrees, and lowered to facilitate maintenance, repair and inspection on areas of the truck that would typically be very difficult to access. The truck rotator assembly may also be mounted on a moveable platform to allow the rotator assembly to be moved to different areas of the shop with a truck mounted on the rotator.
Portable Jacks
Portable jacks deliver maximum floor space flexibility, transforming any location that can support substantial floor loading into a potential maintenance or repair area. Not only can a portable jack be moved anywhere in the shop, but the individual jacking units in the system can also be independently positioned to adjust easily to a variety of support points on a railcar. Standard capacities are 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 50 and 60 US Tons (per jack) and these are available in sets of 4, 8, 12, and 16.
Dummy Trucks / Bogies
The dummy truck is a versatile piece of equipment used in the assembly workshop for the production of new vehicles, including metro vehicles and railway passenger cars. These can be utilized both indoors and outdoors, with customizable features tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer. This four-wheel structure, resembling a standard truck, boasts anti-collision rubber blocks at the end of the dummy truck and anti-skid pads on the supporting seat, ensuring secure support for the car body. Equipped with standard diameter wheels and axles for effortless movement within the shop. The frame is designed with both low and high-level support, complete with a center pin guide for precision handling.
Sanding Systems
BBM Railway Solutions offers Sanding Systems which are used to fill the sand boxes on locomotives and rail cars for improved traction between the wheels of the rail car and the track. These customized systems are available in a gravity fed or pneumatic pressurized configurations in a fixed location. BBM also offers a portable pneumatic solution or "sand trailer" which are DOT approved and capable of being transported on public roads and highways for a cost effective sanding solution.
Dynamic Truck Testing Rig
The dynamic truck testing rig is an advanced and robust system designed to support the truck assembly below the bearings, so the wheels are free to rotate. The truck is connected to a power supply system and full operational tests of the traction motors and bearings are performed in a soundproof enclosure. The machine is controlled at the operator control station outside of the enclosure and all test data is collected and stored in the system.
Ultrasonic Testing Equipment
Our ultrasonic testing equipment is designed to inspect the running surface of the wheel for cracks. The inspection envelope for the wheel is approximately 3.5” wide x 2” deep. This equipment is available in two different configurations; a fixed version where the machine is fixed to the shop floor while the train rolls over it or a mobile version where the machine can move inside of a pit and runs below the train.
